MASK SONGYE (Democratic Republic of Congo)

This handcarved wooden Songye mask embodies the power and beauty known as kwifibe by the Songye people of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Distinguished by its brown or black and white stripes, the mask is believed to embody supernatural forces that will ward off evil. To the Songye, the use of white on the mask symbolises positive concepts such as purity and peace, the moon and light. This mask comes on a stand and can also hang on a wall. 

Available in Small (Height 27cm) or Large (Height 33cm).
